Field View Nursery

Field View Day Nursery is a family run business and was opened in 1995 by Margaret Hepworth, a qualified nurse and practitioner. The Nursery operates from a fully converted, bespoke building situated within an acre of its own landscaped grounds. We are open Monday to Friday 7.30 to 6pm.

The setting has three separate aged/development ‘base’ rooms for babies, toddlers and pre-school and provides care and learning for a maximum of 75 children. We are a large nursery; however, pride ourselves on being able to offer a high quality, flexible and personal approach to all children and their families in our care.

The Nursery is Ofsted registered and at our last inspection on the 23rd  September 2022 we were awarded a judgement of ‘Outstanding in Personal Development, and Good in all other areas’ which gave an overall grading of ‘GOOD’.

Our Nursery Environment

A high-quality nursery education is much more than learning about colours, how to count and writing names. Early education is more focused on preparing children’s confidence, independence and social skills and stresses an approach for a broad preparation for life that goes beyond school-based curriculum. At Field View we believe that if children are empowered to believe in themselves, develop high self-esteem, learn to ‘have a go’ and learn from their mistakes, they will succeed in their future learning.

Babies and young children learn by doing things for themselves, by exploring and investigating, watching and listening, talking and discussing, creating and communicating – in other words – by ‘playing’. Play is children’s work.

We are currently working through our Curiosity Approach Accreditation which is a modern-day approach to Early Childhood using guidance from Reggio, Steiner, Te Whariki with a sprinkle of Montessori.

Our environment is organised with a home from home feel incorporating the Curiosity Approach that enables children to make choices, become independent and initiate their own learning using authentic resources. We have developed all of our rooms over the last year bringing curiosity, awe and wonder into Early Childhood to develop the thinkers and doers of the future whist having the children’s wellbeing plus own individual learning at the heart.

Our rooms are now more calm and neutral using authentic resources such as dressing tables, china cups and saucers, natural resources leaves, pine cones, plants, treasures found at car boot sales or second hand shops which they may not have seen before or had the opportunity to explore including vintage telephones/ typewriters or vintage suitcases with invitations to learning all of which offer opportunities of awe and wonder and promote a sense of curiosity for children to investigate and explore.

We also have loose parts & open-ended resources that entice children to explore with all their senses, entice problem solving and decision making, ask questions and observe, look for connections between what they know and what they are discovering for the first time.

We follow children’s interests and our tribe of passionate, enthusiastic early years educators are dedicated in teaching and extending children’s curiosity, awe and wonder through their experiences at Field View Day Nursery. Our tribes’ journey has taken them back to their childhood memories in making petal perfume, blowing dandelions, climbing trees and managing their own risks in childhood to reflect on and ensure the possibilities are endless for our next generation of thinkers and doers.
